Catholic gingrich santorum

  • (RNS) More than 40 Catholic leaders and theologians have issued an open letter to Catholic candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, warning them to stop perpetuating ugly racial stereotypes on the campaign trail.
  • (Huffington Post)
  • Gingrich has made a last-minute surge in polls a revival feel as members of the audience were invited to give testimonials on behalf of Santorum, a devout Catholic with seven children and strong anti-abortion views.
  • (msnbc.com)
  • In Iowa, 58 percent of Republican caucus voters identified themselves as born-again evangelicals and 60 percent of them voted for either a Catholic (Santorum, 32 percent; Gingrich, 14 percent; or a Mormon, Romney, 14 percent).
  • (Washington Post)
  • Given the history of evangelical antipathy toward the theological underpinnings of the Roman Catholic Church the once-married Rick Santorum and not the thrice married and more recent convert to Catholicism, Newt Gingrich.
  • (Sun Sentinel)
  • Newt Gingrich and the recent dropout Rick don't think this über-fertility is at all strange. Support for Mr. Santorum may show that Protestants are no longer as troubled by the Roman Catholic objection to birth control.
  • (New York Times)
  • What's sad to me as a Catholic is that both Gingrich and Santorum are Catholics, the latter sort of an über-Catholic who doubles, triples and quadruples down on abortion, gay rights, and even the public sale of contraceptives.
  • (Bennington Banner)
  • and it is factually true that hes Catholic. But the polls show that both Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, also a Catholic, are leading Perry overall and among Christian conservative voters. Maybe the man from Paint Creek, Tex.
  • (Philadelphia Daily News)
  • Facing a slate of weak choices, however, unenthused Catholic Republicans may decide to throw all their support to either Santorum or Gingrich, who recently converted to Catholicism.
  • (YAHOO!)
  • In backing Mr. Santorum, the group pushed aside the other Catholic in the race, Newt Gingrich. Mr. Burch praised Mr. Santorum as "a workingman's Republican with a record and a plan which are especially appealing to Catholic voters.
  • (Wall Street Journal)
  • Newt Gingrich is scheduled to speak at the church this morning. The congregation applauded Santorum as he described how his Catholic faith and family values deepened after starting a Bible study group with four other U.S. senators in the 1990s.
  • (The Post and Courier)
